Yeeeessss! The artistic director of the 2007 Venice Film Festival praises the 47 year-old Burton, and does not forget to stick it to "needy older Masters."
Shame on certain journalist harassing girl-beating bullies. May thorns grow up and obscure your grave.
"ROME — Tim Burton will receive the Golden Lion for career achievement from the Venice Intl. Film Festival, which will also honor the inventive Burbank-born helmer with a Tim Burton Day.
Burton, who last docked at the Lido with the 2005 world bow of Corpse Bride, will be celebrated on Sept. 5 at the Palazzo del Cinema with several special events that may include a sneak peak at his Sweeney Todd adaptation, now in production. The Warner Bros./DreamWorks movie version of the Stephen Sondheim musical, toplining Johnny Depp, has been plagued by production delays.
Burton's other pics include Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, Batman and Mars Attacks! A stage adaptation of "Scissorhands" is playing in Gotham.
'Tim Burton is a genius; the most imaginative director spawned by the new age of cinematic art,' said Venice artistic topper Marco Muller in a statement.
Muller also praised Burton, who is 47, for 'having a more insolent pop sensitivity than most new directors today and for being less needy of approval than most of the older masters'."
